Felix recovered from 16th to ninth place in the second FIA F3 European Championship race of the weekend at Imola, salvaging two points as he fought to overcome yesterday’s qualifying mishap.
Felix made a good start and shot into 11th thanks to an aggressive opening lap. He then picked off Nick Cassidy with an eye-catching move around the outside of Tosa to snatch tenth.
After running wide as he touched a wet patch on the exit of Piratella a few laps later, Felix then dropped back down to 12th behind Felix Serrallés and Roy Nissany, moments before the safety car was deployed as Alexander Toril went off at exactly the same place where Felix had been caught out a couple of minutes earlier.
After the restart, he recovered to his eventual finishing position of ninth.
Tom Blomqvist (Carlin) won ahead of Max Verstappen (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Carlin).
The final race of the weekend takes place at 16.00 local time this afternoon.
FELIX:
“I had a good start and made up a lot of places, and we got a decent result considering where we were coming from. We’ll try to do even better in the final race this afternoon – it would be nice to leave Imola with some further points.”
