Felix Rosenqvist endured a challenging night in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway despite a strong grid slot in Round 9 of the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
The Swedish Meyer Shank Racing driver came home 14th in an eventful race on the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri, which featured two red-flag stoppages for sporadic rain at the WWTR oval.
Rosenqvist initially got the weekend off to a strong start by qualifying fourth aboard his No. 60 MSR Honda, this time sporting a Boombastic Radio livery in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning artist Shaggy.
The race itself would prove more of a challenge, however, with Rosenqvist slipping back in the early phases of the 260-lap encounter run under floodlights.
Late in the race, Rosenqvist then lost further ground as a race control error meant he was wrongly registered as entering a closed pit lane. Thus, Rosenqvist had to give up four positions for emergency service, and was forced to make a further proper stop for full service.
After a frustrating night, the Indy 500 winner eventually came home 14th, as the final car on the lead lap.
“We rolled off really well here in qualifying, which is something to take away for us at a track where we’ve usually struggled a bit in the past,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “Then in the race, we didn’t have the same pace as the leaders and fell back on that opening stint. After that I think the pace was actually pretty good, but we just couldn’t cut it through the traffic.
“Then we had that emergency service when we actually pitted before the yellow. That didn’t help and it put us in a really weak position for the last stint, on used tyres.
“All things considered, a better performance than it possibly appeared, but still some work to do on these short ovals.”
Rosenqvist sits eighth in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings with exactly half the season now completed.
Following a gruelling five-week run of action, the field will now finally get a short break before racing resumes again at Road America on June 19-21. Felix Rosenqvist clinched his maiden INDYCAR win at the Wisconsin circuit in 2020 and finished second last year.
