The second FIA Formula 3 European Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone faded into darkness for Felix, who limped home a torrid 14th in a lacklustre event for Mücke Motorsport.
The problems became evident from lap one, as Felix and team-mate Lucas Auer fought severe oversteer and an apparent lack of overall grip. Felix initially managed to claw his way up into 12th, only to fall back to 15th as the race settled in. He then overtook Felix Serrallés on the final lap, but to little consolation as Mücke Motorsport failed to score a point for the first time in years.
To further underline the challenges now faced by the outfit, Felix’s fastest lap in the race was more than one second slower than that of race winner Esteban Ocon, while Auer lapped a further tenth off the pace.
Reigning champions Prema Powerteam locked out the podium, Ocon followed home by team-mates Nicholas Latifi and Antonio Fuoco.
The final race of the weekend takes place tomorrow morning, with weather forecasts predicting the event to be hit by rain.
FELIX:
“What can I say? We’re just way too slow, and there’s no grip at all. The car is extremely difficult to drive and we’re lacking performance in the corners as well as on the straights. Something is seriously wrong; we’ve never been this far off before. They say it’s going to rain tomorrow, which would certainly be helpful. We quite simply have to make the most of what we’ve got for now, and we then need to take a serious look at things going into the rest of the season.”
