Felix Rosenqvist heads to Wisconsin’s picturesque Road America circuit this weekend to wrap up an intense month of back-to-back action in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
Starting with the Sonsio Grand Prix on May 10-11, the INDYCAR fraternity has been hard at work ever since with two weeks of Indianapolis 500 competition and the recently completed Detroit Grand Prix, in which Rosenqvist finished eighth.
The intensity of the early summer stint extends into this weekend with the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America, before the field is finally given a short space of breath with a two-week gap to the following round at Laguna Seca.
Going into this weekend’s 55-lap race, Rosenqvist returns to the track where he scored the biggest triumph of his INDYCAR career to date, winning at Road America back in 2020.
“I’m excited to get back to Road America, which is one of the most beautiful, natural-terrain circuits in the world,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “Having everything from slow to medium-speed and really fast corners, it’s a proper challenge, both in terms of driving and set-up. I always look forward to going there.”
The Rosenqvist/Meyer Shank Racing package has proved strong at previous road course events this year. A sixth-place finish at Barber Motorsports Park came despite a late caution period derailing the Swede’s strategy while fighting up front, and Rosenqvist then drove through the field after contact on the opening lap to score another top ten at the IMS road course.
The new-for-2024 constellation also clinched a podium at the non-championship $1 Million Challenge event at The Thermal Club back in March.
“We’ve been fast at all of the road courses, really, but we’ve also had some bad luck in the races that I hope we can avoid this weekend,” Felix Rosenqvist concludes. “We will see. We just have to keep doing what we’re doing, unlocking small steps of performance race by race.”
The XPEL Grand Prix at Road America marks round seven of the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES and begins with opening practice on Friday. A second practice session will follow suit on Saturday, followed by qualifying in the afternoon. The race takes place on Sunday, starting at 2:35 pm local time (U.S. Central).
