PREVIEW Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America (USA)
After recently scoring his first podium of the season, Felix Rosenqvist is back on track in the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America this weekend as he returns to the site of his maiden NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory.
The four-mile Wisconsin road course gave Rosenqvist his breakthrough win back in 2020, and with the Swede arriving at the Elkhart Lake venue on the back of a podium last time out in Detroit, timing appears to be siding with the Arrow McLaren driver.
Rosenqvist finished sixth at Road America last year in another strong showing at the popular track – but that might count for little, as a complete repaving of the circuit since then is set to throw up a range of unknowns heading into the 2023 event.
“It’s always nice to return to places you’ve gone well at in the past, and I do enjoy Road America a lot,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “However, the new tarmac has made the track a lot, lot quicker than before – we’re talking several seconds per lap. That will definitely change things.
“It will be a very interesting weekend with a lot of uncertain factors, and whoever nails the set-up for the new grip levels will come out on top. Hopefully, that’s us!”
The Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America gets underway with opening practice on Friday, followed by a second practice session and qualifying on Saturday. The 55-lap race takes place on Sunday.
