Following a four-week break around the Summer Olympic Games, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES returns to action this weekend as Felix Rosenqvist begins a high-paced stretch of races to round out the 2024 campaign.
With five races set to be contested across the next five weekends, there will be no shortage of INDYCAR activity as the field regroups for an intense conclusion to the season.
Most of that activity will play out in left-hand turns, with four of the remaining five races taking place on ovals. The first is coming up this weekend with the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, staged at World Wide Technology Raceway (WWTR) in Madison, Illinois.
“It’s been good for everyone to have this break, and I feel like we’ve recovered the fire to get back into the fight,” says Felix Rosenqvist. ”We’re definitely going into the oval part of the season and I’m ready to turn left!”
Rosenqvist is looking to launch himself back into the frame as the season resumes, having suffered two consecutive retirements in the last two races before the break.
Always a contender in qualifying – starting third last time out in Toronto and taking fifth on the grid in the latest oval race at Iowa – converting his one-lap pace into the kind of race results achieved earlier in the season will be the Meyer Shank Racing Swede’s main target.
“I am feeling confident,” Felix Rosenqvist continues. “We’ve always been quick. One of our strengths at the moment is qualifying, and I think that could be crucial this weekend at WWTR. Some of the teams were testing there recently and it seems likely it could be a single-file race. That makes starting up front really important, so hopefully we can be up there and challenge all the way to the line.”
The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 begins on Friday with qualifying and a brace of practice sessions. The race is run on Saturday evening (local time), spanning 260 laps of the 1.25-mile oval.
