Felix Rosenqvist travels across the Canadian border this weekend as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES prepares to battle it out on the streets of Toronto.
Marking the culmination of a busy schedule lately, the Honda Indy Toronto is the final race before a four-week summer break.
For Rosenqvist, hopes are high of continuing a strong run of street course form in 2024. The Swede qualified on the front row for the season-opener in St. Petersburg back in March – his first race for new team Meyer Shank Racing – and then delivered MSR’s first-ever INDYCAR pole position in Long Beach.
Rosenqvist already has one INDYCAR podium to his name in Toronto, scored in 2022, and bagged double wins at the Ontario track in Indy Lights back in 2016.
“Toronto has always been good to me,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “I remember my weekend in 2016 very fondly, and it was a key moment in my quest to get to INDYCAR. It’s certainly a track I enjoy and that’s always suited me well.”
Toronto is the first (and only) street race this season that will feature the newly introduced hybrid engine systems, something Rosenqvist believes could impact the racing perhaps more than at other venues.
“This is our first street race with the hybrids, which I think will play a part here,” Rosenqvist explains. “Traction out of the slow corners is really important and with the additional torque of the hybrid, it could be quite a step in drivability, tyre wear and lap time. I don’t think it will massively turn things upside down, but it’s probably the one race this year where I think it could have the most significant impact.”
Practice for the Honda Indy Toronto begins on Friday. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday, while the race – run over 85 laps – takes place on Sunday.
