NTT INDYCAR SERIES | Rd. 10
PREVIEW Honda Indy Toronto (Canada)
Covering a sequence of five races, the coming four weeks mark an intense period of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES campaign. First out of the blocks this weekend is a much-anticipated return to Toronto – and Felix Rosenqvist is eager to tackle the Canadian street track for the first time in three years.
The Toronto race, laid out around Exhibition Place in the central areas of town, has been one of the most severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the wake of cross-border restrictions, the popular event has been off the calendar in both 2020 and 2021, but now finally makes a welcome return.
For Felix Rosenqvist, Toronto is lined with bright memories. The Swede won both races at the track in feeder series Indy Lights in 2016, and finished fifth on his first (and only) INDYCAR outing at the venue in 2019.
Adding to the incentive, Rosenqvist enters the weekend in determined mood looking for retaliation, having been forced to retire from the latest race at Mid-Ohio with technical issues when running third.
“It will be a lot of fun returning to Toronto, which is one of my favourite races,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “It’s been a while since we last raced there, and I think the entire paddock is fond of this event. I have a strong record there and we also have some unfinished business from Mid-Ohio to take care of.”
The first of five consecutive summer races, Toronto is immediately followed on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule by a double-header event at Iowa Speedway next weekend, and a further two back-to-back meetings in Indianapolis and Nashville.
Action at Exhibition Place gets underway with opening practice on Friday. Qualifying takes place on Saturday, with the 85-lap race following suit on Sunday.
