Felix Rosenqvist will complete the rest of the 2016 DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) campaign with Mercedes-AMG DTM.
Rosenqvist has contested the last two rounds (four races) of the German touring car series at Moscow Raceway (RUS) and the Nürburgring (GER) respectively, scoring a point on his debut, and will now retain his race seat throughout the rest of the season.
“Felix has shown a very strong performance in the last four races and even exceeded our expectations,” says Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM. “Therefore, we decided to also let him compete in the remaining DTM races this season. He has definitely earned it!”
The DTM calendar includes two further rounds, with a visit to Hungary’s Hungaroring coming up next weekend (September 23-25) and the traditional finale at Hockenheim (GER) waiting in the wings on October 14-16.
“I’m pleased with today’s confirmation of my continued DTM race programme,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “My first two weekends in the championship have been promising and I look forward to building on that in Budapest and Hockenheim. They are two tracks I enjoy, and I know from my past in F3 that the Hockenheim finale is a huge event. It will be particularly thrilling to be a part of that as a Mercedes-AMG DTM driver.”
Rosenqvist’s extended DTM commitments mean the Swede – who has blazed through a packed programme in 2016 – will now face another busy period of racing over the coming month. Following his DTM appearance in Budapest next weekend, the 24-year-old will head straight to Barcelona (ESP) for the final round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, before venturing out to the Far East for the 2016-17 Formula E opener in Hong Kong on October 9, and then back to Europe for the Hockenheim DTM extravaganza a week later.
