Felix Rosenqvist fought to try and overcome difficult circumstances in this weekend’s pair of races at the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250s double-header, the penultimate event on the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule.
Rosenqvist started both races from eighth on the grid aboard his #60 Meyer Shank Racing Honda, but had a difficult first race on Saturday and finished 13th.
With some overnight changes proving effective, Rosenqvist enjoyed a much stronger opening stint at the one-mile Wisconsin oval as Sunday’s Race 2 got underway.
Running inside the top five as the first round of pit stops began, however, Rosenqvist’s luck would again betray him, as a loose wheel forced him to return to pit lane to get it tightened.
As a result, the Swede dropped off the lead lap and spent the remaining near-200 laps trying to recover position, eventually falling just short of the top ten in 11th place.
“Not the weekend we wanted,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “We had a pretty good shot today and were running fifth before we had a loose wheel in the pit stop, so we had to come in again. We were basically last at that point, but we had a great race from there on in terms of pace and drove back to 11th.
“I gave it everything to see if there was some chance we could move up more, but we just didn’t have the luck with pit sequences to get our lap back. We were in a bit of a no-man’s-land in the end, but the car had a lot of potential. There seems to always be something in the way for a good result, but we’ll get through it and rebound in Nashville.”
With just one more race to go this season, Rosenqvist currently sits a tied 11th in the overall INDYCAR standings – remaining on course for Meyer Shank Racing’s best-ever championship result. The season finale takes place at Nashville Superspeedway on September 14-15.
