Felix Rosenqvist will start next weekend’s 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 from ninth on the grid, as the top Honda runner in the 33-car field.
After advancing from the opening day of Indy 500 qualifying on Saturday, Rosenqvist returned to Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Top 12 shootout.
Producing a 232.305 mph (373,8 km/h) four-lap average, Rosenqvist wound up ninth fastest, missing out on the final Fast 6 cut but leading the way among the Honda-powered contingent for “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
The effort marks the third consecutive year that Rosenqvist has started the Indianapolis 500 inside the top ten. It also extends the Swede’s unbroken run of top ten qualifying performances in the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
“What a weekend it’s been,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “We didn’t make the Fast 6, but we’re P9 on the grid for the Indy 500, best Honda, and I think that’s a really big achievement in itself. We thought we had a little bit more in it today, but the track came back to us and with hindsight I think we could have trimmed out a bit more (downforce).
“That said, it’s another top ten qualifying result for us – this time in the biggest race in the world – and I’m super stoked about that. The entire Meyer Shank Racing organization has done an amazing job and we’re rewarded with a great position for the race. The AutoNation / SiriusXM team is ready and we are looking forward to race day.”
All 33 qualified cars will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday for a two-hour practice session to start off race week. The 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 goes green on Sunday, May 26.
