Felix Rosenqvist is keen to build on his recent strong pace in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES as the championship descends on Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, with the Swede also targeting an upturn in race-stint performance.
Rosenqvist has delivered convincing qualifying runs so far this season, storming to pole position at Texas Motor Speedway and taking fourth on the grid last time out at Long Beach.
While those performances have demonstrated the outright pace of the Chevrolet-powered Rosenqvist/Arrow McLaren SP combination, the squad has faced a tougher time in the races, particularly battling excessive tyre wear.
Work to address the situation has been going in apace since Long Beach, and Rosenqvist will be out to verify the latest findings as the INDYCAR paddock regroups in Alabama.
“We know where we’re currently lacking a little bit and that will be our main focus throughout practice this weekend,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “It’s actually all in the small details and there’s clear inherent potential in the package. We must work methodically, step by step, and it doesn’t take a lot for us to break through. Obviously, I hope that happens this weekend.”
Round four of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES takes the field to Barber Motorsports Park, a picturesque 2.3-mile road course that stands out from most other tracks on the schedule with more of a European vibe.
“Barber is a beautiful circuit, smooth and flowing and lots of fun to drive,” Felix Rosenqvist concludes. “It’s probably the toughest track physically on the entire calendar, but I like it and it just adds to the challenge. I look forward to getting back there again!”
Formally named the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, this weekend’s race covers a 90-lap distance – close to two hours in duration – and gets underway at noon local time (U.S. Central) on Sunday. Running begins on Friday with opening practice.
