Felix Rosenqvist endured a challenging GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday and is eyeing swift retaliation in the up-coming blue-riband Indy 500.
Qualifying as the leading Arrow McLaren SP car in 13th place, Rosenqvist and his team had their work cut out in Saturday’s 85-lap INDYCAR race around the IMS road course.
While Rosenqvist got proceedings off to a promising start, advancing to the fringes of the top ten in the opening laps, a slow first pitstop cost valuable time and the Swede then struggled for pace on his way to 17th, finishing less than a second behind team-mate Pato O’Ward.
”That was a really bad race,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “We simply didn’t have the pace this weekend, and without that you don’t have the tools to move forward. We need some fundamental changes on that side on the road courses, but we’re pressing on and doing everything we can to find that solution.”
Rosenqvist now shifts his attention firmly towards the ultimate highlight on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule: the Indy 500.
“Thankfully the [Indy] 500 is just around the corner, so we will reload and aim for that,” Felix Rosenqvist concludes. “We know the car is usually strong on the ovals, so I’m really excited for what lies ahead of us.”
Practice and qualifying for the 105th edition of the Indy 500 takes place this coming week, leading up to the world-famous race itself on May 30.
