Hot off the frenzy of the Indy 500, Felix Rosenqvist springs back to action once again this weekend as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES moves immediately on to the streets of Detroit.
After scoring a tied career-best finish of fourth in The Greatest Spectacle in Racing on Sunday, Rosenqvist now readies himself for a very different challenge as running resumes just a few days later.
Gone will be the flat-out, 220 mph+ laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, now handing the limelight over to a tight and twisty dash around the narrow streets of Motown.
Rosenqvist is a previous podium finisher at the Detroit Grand Prix, taking third in the first edition of the race’s new downtown era in 2023. It was previously held on Belle Isle out in the Detroit River.
The Meyer Shank Racing Swede currently sits fourth in the INDYCAR standings, just 29 points behind second-placed Pato O’Ward, and is hoping to keep building his charge as the field regroups in Michigan.
”We have some good momentum going, finishing in the top ten in all races bar one so far this year,” says Felix Rosenqvist. ”Indy was another strong performance by the team, and I hope we can keep it up as we move into the busy summer months.
”Our most competitive performances have generally come on street courses thus far, and although we did struggle a little bit in Detroit last year, we still finished eighth. We’ve come quite some way since then, and I’m hopeful that we’re nearing a podium or even a win pretty soon. Pulling it off this weekend in Detroit would be awesome.”
The Detroit Grand Prix gets underway with an opening practice session on Friday, followed by Practice 2 and qualifying on Saturday. The 100-lap race is scheduled to start at 12:45 pm ET on Sunday.
