PREVIEW Bommarito Automotive Group 500 (USA)
Felix Rosenqvist is ready to take on the final oval race of the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season this weekend as the U.S. single-seater championship descends on World Wide Technology Raceway.
The 1.25-mile (2.1 km) oval – commonly known as “Gateway” – is staging the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, with the “500” denomination referring to the 500 km race distance (260 laps).
Felix Rosenqvist’s best result at Gateway is a seventh-place finish in 2020. The Arrow McLaren SP Swede also finished seventh in the latest INDYCAR race in Nashville two weeks ago, and is keen to back up recent highlights – including pole position at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a podium in Toronto – with another competitive showing.
“I feel strong heading to Gateway,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “We got through all the chaos of Nashville in one piece and we’ve been strong on all the ovals this year. I was on pole in Texas, we had a great Indy 500, and Pato (O’Ward, team-mate) won the latest oval race in Iowa.
“Qualifying is going to be key this weekend. It’s difficult to overtake at Gateway and starting up front is always a great help. If we can qualify in the top ten or somewhere in that region, I think we’ll have a strong race car allowing us to fight for the win.”
Practice and qualifying for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 take place on Friday. The green flag then flies on Saturday, marking the 15th race on the 17-round NTT INDYCAR SERIES agenda. The last two races are staged in September at Portland and Laguna Seca.
