Felix powered to his second pole position of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, and his second at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, as he headed the times in qualifying for the Gallagher Grand Prix to lead the way by a considerable margin.
In what marked a highly competitive session overall, Felix went fastest through the opening group stages, a close second quickest in the following Top 12 segment, and then unleashed his remaining potential in the decisive Firestone Fast 6 to snatch pole for tomorrow’s Gallagher Grand Prix.
In doing so, he edged second-placed Alexander Rossi by almost three tenths of a second, with Pato O’Ward rounding out the top three in an emphatic showing for Arrow McLaren SP.
Felix previously scored pole position in Texas this year, and at the IMS road course back in 2019.
“Wow, what a day! It means a lot to have so many fellow drivers reaching out and supporting me in the last few weeks, and then obviously performances like today always help. The car was unbelievable – big thanks to the Arrow McLaren SP guys today. I felt so calm in the car and I knew when I did that lap that it was the one. I’m absolutely thrilled to be on pole for the second time this year and I can’t wait for the race tomorrow.”
Saturday’s Gallagher Grand Prix will run for 85 laps and is due to start at 12:20 pm / 18.20. It will be preceded by a 30-minute warm-up session at 8:15-8:45 am / 14.15-14.45.
