PREVIEW Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey (USA)
Felix Rosenqvist will apply a flat-out attitude in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES finale this weekend as he bids to come out on top in a close battle for eighth in the championship.
The Arrow McLaren SP Swede is locked in a wide-open three-way fight going into the last race of the season, trailing American Andretti Autosport pair Colton Herta and Alexander Rossi by virtually nothing in P8-P10 in the standings.
Just two points separate the trio as the field descends on the iconic Laguna Seca road course, where the 17th and final race of the campaign is set to play out – and Rosenqvist is not holding back on anything.
“It will be an all-or-nothing approach this weekend,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “That’s what we have to do to make the impression we want to make. I’m in a fight over eighth in the standings, which is never what we’re aiming for, but it’s the situation we have at hand and that means that’s the battle I’m going to take.
“More than anything, I just want to end this season on a high, for myself and the team. The whole group on the #7 car deserves it after a mixed year.”
Rosenqvist notched up another top ten finish last weekend at Portland International Raceway, but feels there is inherent potential for more in the season-ending Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey.
“Our big weakness this year has been stringing together a full weekend,” Felix Rosenqvist concludes. “We have had pole positions, we’ve had fantastic race pace at times, but we’ve just not been able to truly combine them for victory lane. Finally doing that this weekend would be the dream ending to the season.”
Practice for the Grand Prix of Monterey begins on Friday. Qualifying takes place on Saturday, with the 95-lap race going green on Sunday.
