\"gal1\"<\/a>M\u00fccke Motorsport received\u00a0early indications of an up-turn in form\u00a0in Friday\u00a0free practice for round two\u00a0of the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Hockenheim, with Felix and team-mate Lucas Auer\u00a0both\u00a0ending up\u00a0near the\u00a0top of the timesheets to hint of a marked improvement over the Silverstone curtain-raiser.<\/p>\n

Two weeks on from the struggles suffered in the UK<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0a range of mechanical set-up changes immediately seemed to have paid off in Germany, as Felix completed the first 40 minutes of practice fourth\u00a0overall, two tenths adrift of pace-setter Antonio Giovinazzi (Carlin).<\/p>\n

The times would tumble\u00a0further in the subsequent segment of the session, with Giovinazzi again ending\u00a0up in P1 on a 1m33.135s. Felix, meanwhile,\u00a0wound up sixth,\u00a0having looked\u00a0set for the top three until he\u00a0ran into traffic in the shape of\u00a0Fortec’s Mitch Gilbert\u00a0in the final corner of his fastest lap.<\/p>\n

Auer\u00a0ended the session second fastest, two tenths shy of Giovinazzi to\u00a0lend further optimism to the\u00a0M\u00fccke Motorsport resurgence.<\/p>\n

After Thursday preparations at the German venue were hit by rain,\u00a0threats\u00a0of further precipitation forecast for practice\u00a0never materialised, although the skies remain\u00a0dark over\u00a0Hockenheim as the attention shifts towards qualifying later\u00a0this evening.<\/p>\n

FELIX:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“A good start to this weekend, and a positive session for the entire team. It might\u00a0just be\u00a0free practice, but we do seem to have taken some necessary steps forwards coming here. The car still isn’t perfect – we’ve got some brake balance issues to overcome, and\u00a0grip levels can always improve – but all-in-all,\u00a0we’ve got reason to be optimistic.\u00a0Furthermore, I\u00a0got blocked in the final sector\u00a0on my fastest lap, so the potential seems to be there. We now have to keep on working and set ourselves up for qualifying this\u00a0evening;\u00a0that’s when we will truly\u00a0find out just how big a step we’ve taken since Silverstone.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
