INDYCAR confirmed today that the Detroit Grand Prix has been called off due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic – but the number of races still expands in the latest preliminary calendar update.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Detroit meeting – which traditionally features the only double-header event on the IndyCar schedule – was slated to open the heavily revised 2020 campaign on the final weekend of May, but has now become the latest round to fall victim to the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that the first race of the year is now preliminarily due to take place at Texas Motor Speedway on June 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the loss of Detroit (which will not be rescheduled later in the year) is obviously disappointing, today’s calendar update does however also boast a number of positive news. Additional races will be staged at both Iowa Speedway and Laguna Seca, transforming both those rounds into double-header weekends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, a brand new event – the INDYCAR Harvest GP – has been announced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on October 3, marking a new preliminary season-finale and bringing the 2020 schedule up to 15 races. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
