One third through the 2017-18 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, Felix Rosenqvist finds himself sitting second in the overall standings. With two wins from four races so far this campaign, the Mahindra Racing Swede is gearing up for another electric showdown\u00a0this weekend in\u00a0Mexico City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After gracing the top step of the podium in Hong Kong and Marrakesh, Rosenqvist produced a crucial fightback drive last time out in the Santiago E-Prix as he recovered from a difficult qualifying session to salvage\u00a0a strong fourth-place finish\u00a0in the Chilean capital.<\/p>\n

While that effort was not enough to hold on to the overall championship lead – race-winner Jean-Eric Vergne instead seizing the advantage –\u00a0Rosenqvist remains firmly in the title chase in second place,\u00a0just five points adrift of his French rival.<\/p>\n

Five points down on Rosenqvist, in turn, is Sam Bird, with the top trio having now opened up a bit of a gap over the rest of the field. Fourth-placed S\u00e9bastien Buemi, the 2015-16 Formula E champion, currently trails leader Vergne by 34 points as racing resumes at the Aut\u00f3dromo Hermanos Rodr\u00edguez\u00a0– and Rosenqvist is eager to keep up the momentum.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m really excited for this weekend,\u201d says Felix Rosenqvist<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cWe’ve had a very strong start to the season and I can’t see why we shouldn’t aim for a similar performance in Mexico. The entire team is operating better than ever and we’re all pushing in the same direction.”<\/em><\/p>\n

This will be the third\u00a0edition of the Mexico City E-Prix, and Rosenqvist’s second appearance at the event.<\/p>\n

His 2017 race ended two laps before the end after he became\u00a0the\u00a0unlucky victim of a clash up ahead in which Nicolas Prost spun the second Mahindra Racing machine of Nick Heidfeld around in the twisty Foro Sol stadium section. Following close behind, the unsighted Rosenqvist was left with nowhere to go but into the path of his spinning team-mate, crashing out of the event when running eighth.<\/p>\n

“Mexico was one of the most dramatic races of last season and while it wasn’t the best track for us,\u00a0we’ve come a long way since then,” Rosenqvist continues<\/strong>.\u00a0“I’m confident that we can be up there again this weekend. I will be taking the same approach to this race as I did to Santiago\u00a0and it’s crucial for us to keep scoring good, solid points at this stage of the season. That’s my primary\u00a0focus at the moment.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

At some 2,250 metres\u00a0above sea level,\u00a0Mexico City\u00a0sits at the highest altitude of any Formula E venue,\u00a0which means teams and drivers will have to combat\u00a0low air pressure and unique complications as far as battery cooling and energy management are concerned.<\/p>\n

The Mexico City E-Prix\u00a0takes place on Saturday, marking the fifth race out of 12 on the 2017-18 calendar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
