Felix Rosenqvist fired a significant warning shot at his FIA Formula 3 European Championship rivals as he won the opening race of the season, and crafted two unprecedented comeback drives, at Silverstone this weekend.<\/p>\n

Rosenqvist enjoyed a strong start to his new life with multiple title winners Prema Powerteam, claiming pole position for each of the weekend\u2019s three races after topping both of Friday\u2019s qualifying sessions. The 23-year-old Swede duly went on to win the curtain-raising event on Saturday morning, underlining his pace by notching up the fastest lap of the race.<\/p>\n

However, a technicality surrounding the front wing of Rosenqvist\u2019s car \u2013 inadvertently caused by a loose screw \u2013 was to drastically change the landscape for the remainder of the event. The 2014 Macau Grand Prix winner was stripped of his times from second qualifying, revoking his pole positions for races two and three and instead leaving him at the very back of the most congested field in FIA F3 European Championship history.<\/p>\n

Rosenqvist, however, fought back with undiminished inspiration. From 35th and last place, he produced not one, but two, incomprehensible fightbacks, making up a total of 51 places \u2013 to seventh and 12th respectively \u2013 in two races; a feat unmatched in F3 competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was quite an eventful first round of the season, to say the least,\u201d says Felix Rosenqvist<\/strong>. \u201cWe did our thing in pre-season testing and sticked to our programme, and it\u2019s good to see that work now paying off. I was fastest in both qualifying sessions and won the first race, so the pace is there. What happened in second qualifying didn\u2019t yield any performance advantage \u2013 if anything it only made the car slower \u2013 but it is what it is and the final two races were all about damage limitation. In the end, we managed to salvage some points and I don\u2019t think there was much more we could have done. They were two exciting races, that\u2019s for sure! I feel very much at home with the team, we obviously have a strong package, and I look forward to the rest of the year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Despite his exclusion from Qualifying 2, Rosenqvist leaves the season-opener holding fourth place in the overall championship standings.<\/p>\n

The second round of the 2015 FIA F3 European Championship takes place at Hockenheim (Germany) on May 1-3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
