\"R1\"<\/a>Felix once again lost out on a seemingly certain podium\u00a0when the fuel pump on his M\u00fccke Motorsport car\u00a0failed – twice – in the very final stages of\u00a0this weekend’s\u00a0opening FIA F3 European Championship race at\u00a0Spa-Francorchamps.<\/p>\n

After a strong first lap from seventh on the grid, Felix jumped to third with a series of moves\u00a0on the run to Les Combes, slotting\u00a0in behind Max\u00a0Verstappen and team-mate Lucas Auer while championship leader Esteban Ocon was taken out in a clash with Antonio Fuoco.<\/p>\n

From there, the\u00a0order up front remained unchanged until the penultimate lap – when, as per diabolic intervention, disaster struck\u00a0in by-now traditional 2014 fashion.<\/p>\n

In a reoccurrence of the issues\u00a0that held him back in yesterday’s qualifying session, a fuel pump failure saw Felix\u00a0drop to\u00a0fourth as\u00a0Jake Dennis took advantage\u00a0of the problem to\u00a0grab third on the run through Blanchimont, although Felix fought back to reclaim P3\u00a0as the pair commenced the final lap after successfully\u00a0enabling the spare pump installed in each F3\u00a0chassis.<\/p>\n

It would all come to nothing, however, as – a few corners later – the spare pump failed as well, leaving Felix defenseless on the final sprint towards the Bus Stop chicane and dropping to seventh on the very final lap. He was able to freewheel across the line.<\/p>\n

M\u00fccke Motorsport are currently investigating the cause of the problems, which have struck Felix and team-mate Roy Nissany\u00a0repeatedly in 2014.<\/p>\n

FELIX:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“What can I say? First of all,\u00a0I was lacking speed on the straights\u00a0and\u00a0could not attack Lucas in front of me even when getting a\u00a0very good slipstream. I think that’s the first thing we need to investigate. Secondly,\u00a0after the first fuel pump\u00a0failed, I was able to activate the second one, which we can enable from the cockpit. When the second one failed two corners from the finish,\u00a0it wasn’t a great feeling.\u00a0There’s not much more to add.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
