\"gal12\"<\/a>Felix will start tomorrow’s opening FIA Formula 3 European Championship race\u00a0at Hockenheim from eighth on the grid, having fallen just one tenth short of third in an ultra-close qualifying session on Friday evening.<\/p>\n

With a full 22 (!) cars ending up within one second, the competitiveness of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship once again\u00a0left the paddock\u00a0thrilled\u00a0as times tumbled and positions changed throughout the course of the 20-minute session.<\/p>\n

As the chequered flag\u00a0fell to bring proceedings to a close, Felix found himself in eighth – although\u00a0a mere\u00a0one tenth of a second\u00a0would have been enough to promote him onto the\u00a0second row of the grid.<\/p>\n

Pole position, meanwhile, went to M\u00fccke Motorsport team-mate Lucas Auer, who produced a near-perfect lap to\u00a0cement the Berlin squad’s return to form following the torrid outcome of the Silverstone season-opener.\u00a0The Austrian ended up 0.301s ahead of Felix, whose main deficit\u00a0came from a lack of confidence in Sector 1.<\/p>\n

Race 1 gets underway\u00a0at lunchtime tomorrow, with second qualifying – which sets up the grid for Races\u00a02 and 3 –\u00a0then taking centre stage\u00a0later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

FELIX:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“First of all, big congrats to Lucas. He did\u00a0the better job today, and that’s the difference between our positions on the grid. The car felt good and the team\u00a0deserves credit for having turned our situation around so quickly. It was a very\u00a0close session, and it definitely feels a little sour to start eighth\u00a0when we\u00a0were literally the blink of an eye from the\u00a0front row.<\/p>\n

“I need to find\u00a0some time in the fast corners – particularly\u00a0Turn 1,\u00a0where I\u00a0was lacking\u00a0confidence today. It wasn’t helped\u00a0when I was given a warning early on for exceeding track limits, which inevitably made me hold back a little too much throughout the rest of\u00a0the session. It’s down to me to do a better job tomorrow, and the target has got to be to make up some ground in the first race.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
