Felix Rosenqvist took a 13th place finish in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, spending the weekend locked in the midfield in round 11 of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
In what marked a difficult home event for Meyer Shank Racing, Rosenqvist led the team’s qualifying efforts in 13th place on Saturday.
There was some encouragement going into the race on Sunday as Rosenqvist emerged quickest in the morning warm-up session, but at a track known for its limited overtaking opportunities, it was always going to be a long way forward for the Indy 500 winner.
A slow, 11-second first pit stop did not help the Swede’s cause as he shifted from Firestone prime (hard) to alternate (soft) tyres for a short second stint.
Completing the rest of the race on the preferred hard rubber after that, Rosenqvist then spent the remainder of the event in the midfield, battling for a possible top ten but eventually finishing 13th.
Team-mate Marcus Armstrong came home 14th to wrap up a difficult home race for Meyer Shank Racing.
“A P13 today and the ‘ole bakers dozen,” says Felix Rosenqvist. ”We have simply not been very competitive this weekend. We had an issue with the fuel probe in the first pit stop which lost us quite a lot of time, and then we weren’t very good on the reds and had to pit early.
“After that, we just sat in 13th for the rest of the race with not a lot of action going on. I think we had maybe a top ten car here, but we pretty much did what we could on quite an average day.”
Felix Rosenqvist sits seventh in the standings following today’s race.
The next NTT INDYCAR SERIES round takes place at Nashville Superspeedway on July 18-19.
